Now that we have this great website It's about time this club had some match reports again so we can all see how each team is doing!
I recommend that the Captains delegate someone after each game, if the match report isn't submitted then they get fined. The reports don't have to be full length stories, anything that you want in fact. Captains for this to work you must inforce it! Give it a go!
If you send them to Farmer or Sarah we'll publish them on the site.
Sat 11th March - ODF M1's vs Harleston Magpies 2's
5 -2
A great result for ODF, a win that was desperately needed by the 1st team to try and drag them out of the relegation zone.
Goals from Foster (2), Lazzers, Yoda and Bubba ensured we had a comfortable win although we went down 1 - 0 early on, we soon recovered and dominated the majority of the game.
Kingston made his debut at right back (much to his disappointment!), but this allowed Foster and Lazzers to continue their excellent midfield paring of recent weeks.
Surprisingly Foster won MOM again with the majority of the votes!
Next week is another big game, we are playing Wapping the League Leaders, we need to continue our good run of form, and get another result.

Sat 18th March - Wapping M1's vs ODF M1's
1-2
Another good weekend for the Mens 1st Team beating League Leaders Wapping 2-1. ODF started the game well getting a short corner within minutes, unfortunately (due to a dodgey pitch!?) Lazzers couldn't drag the ball out so a short corner wasted. From then on Wapping looked the stronger team and constantly put pressure on the ODF defence, (which still included the new found defender Kingston!) the pressure led to Wapping getting a few short corners and goal from a pretty average straight strike.
Half time approached and Wapping were still looking the stronger team going forward. The normal (very) quick half time chat was done: we all knew what we had to do, and felt confident that it could be done. ODF went into the second half looking the stronger team and put pressure on Wapping straight away which eventually lead to a goal from Lazzers clearing up from a few successive saves from the Wapping keeper. ODF carried on playing well and scored another goal from a great set piece, going from Moaty to Bubba to Godsey who put the ball away well. This lead to a nervous last 15 minutes to the game where ODF defended well keeping Wapping at bay.
The win takes us in to the last week of the season where we are at home against Spalding, a win guarantees that we stay in Div 1.
MOM went to the hard working midfield dynamo Lazzers!

Saturday 18th March - ODF Mens 2s Vs Upminster 3s
We went into this match knowing that we needed as many points from the last two games to guarantee us not being relegated.
We fielded a strong 11 and started the match well with a few chances that were well saved by the opposition keeper untill about 10-15 minutes in when an Upminster attacker came in on the wrong side to try and steal the ball on the edge of the 16' line and got caught with my stick on the knee as I hit the ball and followed through which split his knee and he had to go off to get it stitched.
The game changed a bit after that with Upminster starting to put pressure on us at the back and Dave Pudman making some very good saves, including a very casual looking back heel around the post!
We still had our chances and Ash had a great reverse shot well saved by the keeper in the second half it was a frustrating second half with us making some silly errors and not performing to our best as a team.
With about 10 minutes to go they made a break and outnumbered us at the back and scored and although we pushed up and try to even the score they held out for the last 10.
All in all an average performance by us although Ash and Dave Pudman both had very good games
Man of the match was beetween Dave and Ash with Ash getting it by a narrow margin
Final score ODF 1 - Upminster 0
We must win next week against Havering to stand any chance of staying up.

Sat 25th March - ODF M1's vs Spalding 1's
4-1
Old De Ferrians played their final game of the season at home against Spalding, another win was required to guarantee that the 1st team didn't get relegated.
The pressure of this big game affected the team and ODF started nervously, letting in an early goal from a short corner which the defence failed to clear. When teams lucky Charm (Theo) arrived he seemed to have an instant impact and ODF bounced back with a goal from Godsey. ODF were back in the game and began to look at bit more composed. Fast breaks from both teams saw a game of end to end hockey, but good saves from both keepers kept the score level. Five minutes before half time ODF won a short corner, Foster stepped up and fired the ball into the back of the net with a well taken drag flick.
The second half begun and ODF new from experience that Spalding would come at them and go for the win, but the boys defended well and looked strong. Easton finally arrived at the pitch only 2 and half hours late. Farmer made the tactical changes, not as smoothly as planned which meant Easton playing three different positions in 20 seconds which must have confused the opposition as well of some of the ODF players! Lee pushed forward into his more creative central role and ODF dominated the game from there on, Godsey went on to score two more goals making the final result of 4-1.
MOM went to the big man at the back: Bubba.
A great effort from all the boys ensured that overall we finished 6th in the league, well clear of the relegation drop!
